Diaper inserts/doublers make cloth diapers absorbent! There are several different types and each has its advantage and uses.
Cotton: Very absorbent, organic cotton available, often blended with other fibers Hemp: More absorbent than cotton, very durable, has natural anti-bacterial/anti-microbial properties, trim fitting Microfiber: A polyester blend fabric, absorbs very quickly, inexpensive, dries quickly, durable. Microfiber should not be placed directly against baby’s skin as it will dry out baby’s skin and leave it chapped. Microfiber inserts should be topped with a stay-dry material, natural fiber, or stuffed in a pocket. Bamboo: More absorbent than cotton, very durable, has natural anti-bacterial/anti-microbial properties, super soft, a renewable resource and naturally biodegradable
Inserts come in many different combinations of these fabrics, many different sizes, and many different thicknesses. Happy Boo is sure to have the type that works best for your baby.
Diaper Liners
Diaper Liners are not really necessary for cloth diapering, but many people believe they make diaper changes quick, easy and mess free. There are reusable liners and disposable liners.
Reusable Liners are thrown in the wash with the dirty diapers. If they are made of micro-fleece, they will keep your baby feeling dry. Biodegradable Liners can be tossed and flushed. Both types of liners are recommended to be used while clearing up a diaper rash with a diaper cream. This barrier will keep the diaper cream from getting on the absorbent fabric of the cloth diaper, which would keep the fabric of the diaper from absorbing fully. There are also special diaper creams that are made to be used with cloth diapers.
